Puccini’s Tosca, the Opera
The story
Rome, 1800. The singer Floria Tosca loves the painter Cavaradossi, who shelters an escaped political prisoner. The police chief Scarpia arrests and tortures Cavaradossi and offers Tosca his life in exchange for herself. She kills Scarpia, but his promised mock execution proves real, and Tosca leaps from the battlements of the Castel Sant’Angelo.
The music
Puccini’s 1900 score drives the drama without pause, with Tosca’s ‘Vissi d’arte’, Cavaradossi’s ‘Recondita armonia’ and ‘E lucevan le stelle’, and the overwhelming Te Deum that closes Act I.
Tosca Running Time and Age Guidance
The performance lasts approximately 3 hours, including two intervals.
Best Seats for Tosca
We source seats in the top categories: the Orchestra Stalls for closeness to the stage, the Stalls Circle for a slightly raised view, and the Donald Gordon Grand Tier for a complete picture of the stage with balanced sound.
