About Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre

Based on Charles Dickens's 1838 novel Oliver Twist, the musical follows a young orphan looking for a home and a family, who falls in with a gang of child pickpockets on the streets of London. It shows the city's underworld through a child's eyes, holding friendship, poverty and crime in the same frame. Oliver! premiered in the West End in 1960 and ran for 2,618 performances. It has since won three Tony Awards and drawn three Olivier Award nominations, and the score carries songs that have long outlived the show's first run - Food Glorious Food, I'd Do Anything and Consider Yourself among them. Cameron Mackintosh produces this revival, with Matthew Bourne as director and choreographer, Jean-Pierre van der Spuy as co-director, Lez Brotherston as designer and Graham Hurman as musical supervisor and conductor. The cast includes Simon Lipkin as Fagin and Aaron Sidwell as Bill Sikes.
