About My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre

Satsuki and Mei move to the countryside with their father while their mother is in hospital, and find the woods around their new home are not empty. The production brings Hayao Miyazaki's story to the stage with large-scale puppetry, a live score built on Joe Hisaishi's music, and a set that opens out into forest, rain and the Catbus. The staging is one of the most visually ambitious in the West End, and it plays to a mixed audience of families, Ghibli devotees and theatregoers who come for the craft of the puppetry alone. The show carries themes of a parent's illness and some loud sound effects, which is worth knowing if you are bringing younger children.
