The Programme
The Rite of Spring
Stravinsky’s ballet score caused a riot at its Paris premiere in 1913 and remains one of the most electrifying works ever written for orchestra.
Duke Bluebeard’s Castle
Bartók’s only opera, first performed in Budapest in 1918, follows Judith as she opens the seven locked doors of her new husband’s castle, each revealing more of Bluebeard’s secrets. It is sung in Hungarian.
