It is named after Philippe Chatrier, the former president of the Fédération Française de Tennis and the International Tennis Federation. It has a retractable roof and is used for the most important matches of the tournament, including the finals.

These courts have seating that allows spectators to enjoy the games comfortably. They are where you would typically see top-ranked players and seeded matches.
The design and construction of these courts also cater to media coverage, ensuring that matches played here are broadcast globally.
