Adele burst' onto the scene in 2007 when her debut hit single Chasing Pavements topped the UK charts on its release. Her debut album 19 saw her stock rise even higher gaining the young English singer-songwriter a Mercury Prize nomination for 19 and two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Chasing Pavements.
The same year Adele was nominated for two other Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Adele was the first recipient of the BRIT Awards Critics Choice award in 2008. The following year Adele was nominated again for Best Female Vocal Pop Performance for her song Hometown Glory.
Adele's second album, 21, was released in January 2011 and was produced by Red Hot Chili Peppers collaborator Rick Rubin and Paul Epworth (Florence and the Machine).
