Background

Can material riches ever be more seductive than true love? This is the question that drives Kenneth MacMillan’s perennially popular three-act story-ballet, based on the same 18th-century narrative that inspired the opera by Massenet. A selection of the composer’s other music provides the ballet’s highly melodic score.
